Dear Mr. Lindquist:

I would like to thank you on behalf of all visitors to the Magic Kingdom for Disneyland's decision to restore Old Red, the world's last Mark III monorail. As you probably saw on today's L.A. in the Morning segment on Old Red and the Mouseorail, both I and my daughter were overwhelmed by the wonderful treatment we received and the fun of being behind the line and before the camera of Stephanie Edward's television program.

The presentation that Ms. Barbara Warren made on behalf of Disneyland was a complete, utter, and pleasant surprise, and I am proud and honored to receive such a beautiful gift. All I ever wanted to do was make sure that the Mark III survived somewhere, even in a musty old museum or back lot. But to do what Disneyland has done was beyond my wildest hopes. Not only was Old Red meticulously restored to its former glory (every dent and ding of 20 year's service magically removed!), but it will go on the road for millions of people to see and remember. That's the greatest gift of all! The people of Disneyland know how to make the best decision in any marketing or publicity move. And that's what I like!

Thank you again for doing this -- the final result was wonderful to watch and the beautiful Mouseorail model occupies the most honored place in our home. Please give my thanks to everyone who had a hand in making this happen. Millions of people have ridden the Mark IIIs, and to them the design will forever be the mark of Tomorrowland from their youngest, fondest memories.

Over the past two years all of you in the Disney companies have been so patient, cooperative, courteous, and understanding in my quest to save the Mark III that I truly believe it was a group effort. We can never accurately predict where any human action will lead us, or what will result from pursuing a dream. I never imagined that my wish to see a battered, tired old train saved from the junk heap could result in such a moving tribute to the genius of Walt Disney.

You helped make the dream that I wished come true. And isn't that what the Magic Kingdom is all about?

As Goofy would say, "Gawrsh, folks, thanks!"

Sincerely,

Victor Koman
on behalf of everyone who fondly remembers the world's last Mark III Monorail
